Biography:

Endre László Szász ("Vallon") (1926 - 2003) was a Hungarian painter, illustrator, graphic artist, engraver, muralist, designer and decorator of ceramics (porcelain painter). He drew from childhood and used oil, acrylic, tempera, pencil, ink, charcoal, monotype, drypoint, lithography, etching and aquatint, and painted on several materials, such as posters and porcelain. He has also produced several book illustrations.
Endre studied at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest.
Between the late 1940s and the late 1960s, Szász worked as an illustrator and illustrated several hundred books.
In 1959 he won an illustrator's prize at the Leipzig Fair.
In 1964, he presented his work on Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat in Great Britain.

He has had several exhibitions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (Mexico City), the Auschwitz Museum (Poland), the Hungarian National Gallery (Budapest), and has also exhibited in Madrid, Copenhagen, Brussels, Berlin, Rome, Oslo, Johannesburg, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Budapest, Amman (Jordan) and Tokyo. An original by Szász also hangs in La Sebastiana, one of the homes of the famous Chilean poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda.
He was one of the greatest painters in the history of art. Szász lived in Toronto, Canada, from 1970 to 1974, and then in Los Angeles, California, until 1982, when he returned to Hungary.

Like Salvatore Dali, Szász had a pet ocelot.
