Exceptional acquisition by Galerie Pignolet of a studio collection by Géo de Vlaminck, a renowned Belgian multidisciplinary artist and teacher of Nicolas de Staël.

Exceptional Acquisition of a Studio Collection by Géo de Vlaminck

Galerie Pignolet has recently acquired a rather exceptional studio collection by Géo de Vlaminck, a Belgian multidisciplinary artist who, although somewhat forgotten today, is gradually being brought back into the spotlight.

This renewed interest is due in particular to the work carried out around his oeuvre, as well as to the involvement of the artist’s family, who have helped to promote a better understanding of his career. They have notably published a book devoted to Géo de Vlaminck’s work, as well as another focusing on his artistic and pedagogical collaboration with his most famous pupil: Nicolas de Staël.

Nicolas de Staël is said to have come specially from Switzerland to study in Brussels under Géo de Vlaminck for several years. Given the importance Nicolas de Staël’s work has acquired in the history of modern art, it is now all the more essential to bring renewed attention to the figure of his teacher, Géo de Vlaminck.

An exhibition devoted to the artist was also organised in Brussels in 2025 by the auction house Sotheby’s, accompanied by a press conference on his work and career.

Galerie Pignolet has acquired a studio collection that once belonged to Lola Di Vito, the painter’s muse, a central figure in the relationship between the artist and his pupil, and, of course, a renowned great opera singer in her own right.

On this website, you will find a selection of works offered for sale by Galerie Pignolet, particularly in the section dedicated to graphic works.

This acquisition represents an exceptional discovery. We are delighted to present a collection of timeless graphic works, marked by a sensitive representation of the nude and by a gradual evolution towards abstraction.

We wish you an enjoyable discovery.
