Biography of James Rizzi:
James Rizzi (1950-2011), American Pop Art painter, is known for his colourful and stylised works depicting urban scenes, often inspired by his native New York. Born in Brooklyn, he studied fine art at the University of Florida, where he developed a unique 3D graphic technique combining painting, engraving and sculpture.
Revealed to the public in 1974 at an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, his naive and playful style quickly won over museums and galleries around the world. His work extends to the design of everyday objects such as telephone cards, CD covers and limited editions of accessories.
James Rizzi left a lasting imprint on Pop Art, and was also involved with a number of charities. Until his death in 2011, he lived and worked in a studio-loft in SoHo, Manhattan.
