Maison Jansen, 'Cobra' table lamp in gilded bronze, Hollywood Regency ca 1970

Cobra lamp in gilded bronze, attributed to Maison Jansen, France, circa 1970. Probably inspired by an Edgar Brandt design from the 1930s. The lamp is distinguished by its realism and features a telescopic brass stem supporting an original oval silk shade with a gilded inner lining. This type of luminaire is sometimes also attributed to Maison Charles, Paris.
Overall in good condition. Works with a standard screw-in bulb (E27), compatible with E27 LED bulbs, and has a switch integrated into the cable. Perfectly functional and ready to use.

Biography of Maison Jansen in Paris:
Maison Jansen is a Paris-based interior design house. It was founded in 1880 by Dutchman Jean-Henri Jansen. Maison Jansen is regarded as the first global design firm to turn its name into a brand, offering its services in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. In the early 1940s, Maison Jansen set up its own workshops on 17,000 m2 rue Saint Sabin in Paris. Throughout its history, the firm has employed the traditional European style of design, but has also followed European trends in this field, notably Viennese Secession, Modernism and Art Deco, which were developed by the firm between 1920 and 1950. Under Boudin's direction, Maison Jansen worked for the royal families of Belgium, Iran and Serbia, as well as for the White House under the administration of John F. Kennedy...
