Biography:
Paul Wunderlich (1927-2010) was a German artist and sculptor renowned for his bold and provocative works, often centered on the exploration of the human figure and its erotic aspects. Born in Eberswalde, Germany, Wunderlich studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts, where he was strongly influenced by the Surrealist and Expressionist movements. Throughout his career, he worked in a variety of media, but it was his sculpture that won him international recognition.
His sculptural output is characterized by an intense exploration of human anatomy and eroticism, with organic and often distorted forms. Wunderlich's works embody a complex, sometimes disturbing sensuality, where the beauty of the human body is related to themes of sexuality, desire and intimacy. His sculptures in bronze, marble and resin, often depicting sensual female figures, are marked by suggestive postures and gestures, but also by a treatment of form that transcends the simple representation of the nude.
Wunderlich's eroticism is not only aesthetic, but also symbolic, addressing the boundaries between the sacred and the profane, the sublime and the trivial. His works question the relationship between body and soul, and invite reflection on the duality of human nature.
