Biography:
Urbain Herregodts was born in Edegem in 1935 Edegem and died in 1986 in La Louvière, Belgium.
Self-taught, he trained as a printer and exhibited for the first time in Ostend in 1963. In 1962 he met the surrealist poet Achille Chavée with whom he collaborated in 1968 in the "Daily Bul". Member of the Phases group in 1966, and collaborates with the magazine "Edda" after meeting J. Lacomblez and J. Zimmermann.
Hainaut Prize in 1970, "Jeune Peinture Belge" prize in 1971. He is influenced by surrealist writers and painters. The artist will be a painter, draughtsman and sculptor. His graphic work tends towards lyrical abstraction, pictorial automatism, drawn from the depths of the human soul.
His works can be found in various museums, in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels, in the Thomas Neirynck collection and in private collections.
