Biography:
Yves RHAYE is a Belgian artist born in Ostend in 1936 and died in 1995 in Ninove.
Painter, draftsman, graphic designer, sculptor, sculptural ceramicist, jewelry designer.
Studies in interior architecture, sculpture and painting at the Academy of Ghent, under Robert Heylbroeck (1955-60).
He began as a designer in various ceramic industries, including in the Perignem workshop in Beernem (1962), where he received the fundamental rules of ceramics under the guidance of Laurent Vandeweghe, and in the Florizoon brickworks in Nieuport.
Member of the "Cyanuur" and "Fantasmagie" circles (1960).
He will set up his workshop in Voorde Castle near Ninove.
He creates anthropomorphic and biomorphic sculptures (confusing plant and animal elements…), humanoid figures transformed into extraterrestrial and fantastic creatures which he executes in terracotta or bronze.
He will be elected a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

First solo exhibition in Ghent in 1962, Galerie Veranneman in Brussels in 1972, Knokke-Heist in 1977, Brussels in 1978, Auxerre 1989.
Retrospective of 20 years, Ixelles Museum in 1980.
Works in the Cabinet des Estampes in Brussels, the Museums of Ixelles, Ostend, Kortrijk, Ypres, Milan, Yugoslavia, South Africa, Germany, Veranneman Foundation, Baron Lambert collections, Crédit Communal, Générale de Banque, Morgan Guaranty Trust Cy, Museum en Archief Vlaams Cultuurleven in Antwerp, Royal Library, Brussels and State collections.
